Soriana Sofa and Armchair Set, 1970, Tobia Scarpa, Cassina, brand new leather
Extraordinary collection of one extra large Soriana Sofa and two Soriana armchairs designed by Tobia Scarpa in 1960 , winner of Compasso D'oro 1969, manufactured in the 70s and completely reupholstered with the best Italian quality vegetable tanned leather .
This Soriana set is currently being reupholstered in Italy with a top quality leather bought from an Italian longstanding leader tannery. Lead time about 10/12 weeks.
The Soriana is an iconic Italian Design Piece, the lounge chair and ottoman design won the Compasso D'Oro in 1969 one of the most important design award of that time. The Soriana was manufactured by Cassina in the 1970s and the idea is that to express beauty and comfort by using a whole bundle of fabric or leather hold by single steel clamp. The Soriana Collection is a collector piece and part of the history of Italian Design destined to increase in value with the time.
We are offering a complete set of one large sofa (3 front clamps) and 2 armchairs which are being completely upholstered with the most luxurious of the leathers.
Leather used: Please refer to the leather color shown in the pictures. the leather used for this project is the top quality leather you could find, it is a Vegetable tanned leather produced following Italian traditional methods which turns raw hides into durable leather; this is a particular kind of leather where the tanning process is based on the use of a natural substance, the tannin, an active ingredient found on different trees and vegetables which transforms the hide into a compact and resistant material durable through the years, and one of a kind. This special leather matures and changes with the passing time without ruining and reveals the signs of time and use which indicates the naturaleness and luxury of this leather, giving that "Vintage" effect which will never loose its beauty.
Reason for using such leather : softness, naturaleness, showing signs of use which allows the leather to mature and express its beauty developing a mature and vintage effect but keeping strength - it also eliminates the 'plastic' effects of the foldings of the sofa which may show when wrong leather type is used.
